The US healthcare system has reached a tipping point and is in the midst of a significant transformation. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPCA) is being implemented in response to the increasing number of people with chronic illness; the need to take care of a growing and gaining population; and the reality that if the system does not change, the Medicare Trust Fund will be bankrupt by 2017.
